United States · Independent Gutter Guidance
What gutter installation and repair involve, what drives the price, and what to ask before you sign. Independent guidance, not a contractor.
Why Gutter Answers
Most gutter information online is published by companies that want to sell you gutters. That is not a reason to distrust it, but it does mean the answer to every question tends to be a quote. We are not a contractor, we do not perform the work, and we have nothing to upsell you on.
What we can do is explain what a job involves before you are standing in the driveway with someone holding a clipboard. Knowing the difference between a seam repair and a full replacement, or why a company is asking about your fascia, is worth more than any discount.
When you are ready to talk to someone, we connect you with licensed local companies. You are under no obligation to hire any of them.

This is the question most people arrive with, and it is usually answerable from the pattern of the failure rather than the age of the gutter. Isolated problems on an otherwise sound run tend to repair well. Repeated failures in different places point somewhere else.
A company that recommends full replacement for a single failed seam is worth a second opinion. So is one that keeps patching a run that fails somewhere new every year.

Gutter work is normally quoted by the linear foot, which makes it easy to compare two quotes and easy to miss what is different between them. The length of the run is only the starting point. What sits around it does most of the work on the final number.
The fascia is the one that surprises people. A gutter that has been overflowing for a season or two has been running water down the board behind it, and a quote given from the ground cannot see that. Ask whether the price assumes sound fascia.

Nearly everything written about gutters online is published by a company that installs them. That does not make it wrong, but it does mean the answer to every question tends to arrive at a quote. We do not fit gutters, so we have nothing to steer you toward.
When you are ready to talk to someone, we connect you with licensed local companies. There is no charge for that and no obligation to hire any of them. Taking more than one quote is the single most useful thing you can do.

How It Works
Work out whether you are looking at a repair, a section replacement or a full run. Knowing which one you are asking about changes the conversation with a company entirely.
Overflowing at a corner, sagging in the middle, leaking at a seam, or missing altogether. The symptom points at the job.
You are matched with licensed gutter companies that work in your area. Comparing more than one quote is the whole point.

By the linear foot for the gutter itself, with downspouts, corners, outlets and any fascia work priced on top. That is why two quotes with the same per foot rate can still land in very different places.
Sectional gutters come in lengths that are joined together on site, so there are joints along the run. Seamless gutters are formed from a coil at your house and only have joints at corners and outlets. Fewer joints means fewer places for a leak to start later.
They reduce how often the job needs doing rather than removing it. Debris still collects on top of most guard types, and the cheaper screens can trap material in the gutter where it is harder to reach than before. Ask a company which type it fits and why.
Ask for the license number and verify it with the issuing state body rather than taking a photograph of a card as proof. Ask for current liability insurance and workers compensation. Then ask what the quote excludes, which is usually more revealing than what it includes.
